A Soccer Farewell

A Soccer Farewell

By Gracyn Frieling

Unfortunately, soccer season at Geneva has recently come to a close. Despite its end, however, it was a great season for both the guys and girls teams. The teams were coached by Marty Morris with help from Becky Doran and Morgan Brown.

The boys team finished with a record of 3-9 in district play and 3-10 overall. 2 players were presented with All-District nominations.Wyatt Erfurt and Grant Williams were selected for 2nd team All-District.

The girls team finished with a record of 7-5 in district play and 9-6 overall. They made it to the playoffs, but unfortunately lost to Houston St. Thomas in the first round. A couple of girls were also recognized for their accomplishments this season with All-District nominations. Four ladies were voted All-District 1st team and two were voted All-District Honorable Mention. MacKenzie FitzGerald was voted All-District 1st team goalkeeper, and Katelyn Davis, Elise Valdez, and Audrey Davis joined her on the 1st team lineup. Carissa Georgelos and Lana Harrison received Honorable Mention.

The girls team also made Geneva history this season in their second game against Veritas. Prior to this, Geneva had never beaten or even scored against Veritas. Both of these statements are no longer true as Audrey Davis scored and Geneva won 1-0.

It has been a great season full of hard work and fun. Both teams are sad to see their seniors go, but they were recognized at senior night and their accomplishments were celebrated. It is hard to know what the future holds for Geneva Soccer, but we are excited to find out.
