(Basket) Ball Up
By Jackson Young
As the basketball season nears its end at Geneva, it seems appropriate to do a quick recap of the highlights of the boys and girls varsity and the JV.
Heading into the district tournament which decides playoff seating the varsity boys went 5-3 in district under head coach Phillip Boenitz. They lost three close games to the top three teams in district: JPII, TSD, and Brentwood. The boys came in fourth in district and they are looking to make a playoff run and get some payback along the way.
The girls varsity team coached by Athletic Director Eric Boerboom has gone 2-5 in district and have barely lost to some really good teams. They are looking to clinch a playoff spot with a win against JPII.
Last but not least is the JV team. Since this team was started four years ago they have not lost a district game. That’s right, four years and zero losses. This year the JV team was lead to a perfect season by two new coaches at Geneva: Julius Mcneal and Stuart Chapman. Geneva basketball had yet another successful year and is hoping for more in the future.
