The True Meaning of Valentines
By Gabi Griffey
So, let's be honest with ourselves, Valentines’ Day really isn’t about love. It’s not about those strange fuzzy feelings. It’s not the thought that counts. We all know it's only about the chocolate and flowers. All those with a “sweetheart” know this. Nobody ever really gives one thought to why they're getting overpriced candy and bouquets of flowers. The only thing that’s on anyone’s mind is how they are going to eat all this deliciousness in one sitting. But I must say, life is pretty dang hard for all those of us who don't have out there without someone who can provide the "goods;" no free flowers or chocolate for them. February 14th reveals just how miserable living an independent lifestyle is. First of all, all the fancy assorted stuff is out of the question because all this is coming straight outta' your pocket. Secondly, even if you did want to buy any valentines specialty junk, the sale aisle in Walmart is really your only option. Alright buddy here’s the rub, if you're broke and alone in high school, chocolate and flowers will always be out of your league. So, I will leave all you hopeless “romantics” one-piece of advice; just get yourself a man (or lady friend), or else you’ll never get those Godiva or Ferrero Roche’s sitting next to a vase of roses that we all dream about.
